StingerStudio Use Policy
Body
The StingerStudio Makerspace is a shared workshop/instruction space where Sacramento State students, faculty and staff can access tools and technologies in support of learning and creation. Rules of use for the StingerStudio are intended to promote safe and practical use of the library’s makerspace equipment. In addition to observing the existing Library Use Policy and Code of Conduct, patrons are also expected to comply with the following:
Access
- The StingerStudio is available to all registered Sacramento State students and current Sac State faculty and staff.
- All visitors must check in at the StingerStudio Welcome Desk and swipe their OneCard. We also ask that users of the space communicate the purpose of their visit.
- Visitors may only use the StingerStudio during posted open hours or by special appointment. Hours are subject to change depending upon the academic calendar or staffing limitations.
- Projects left in the StingerStudio for an extended period must be properly stored. Duration of storage is determined by StingerStudio employees and dependent upon availability of space.
- Projects left unattended in the StingerStudio will be disposed of at the discretion of StingerStudio employees.
- Sacramento State University Library is not responsible for loss or theft of personal property in the StingerStudio.
Safety
- Always wear appropriate eye protection when required.
- Do not wear loose clothing or accessories that may get caught in the equipment. This includes headphones, earbuds, ties, jewelry, and clothing with loose sleeves.
- Tie up loose and long hair as much as possible and make sure no hair is exposed to the equipment.
- Wear closed toe shoes. No high heels or sandals.
- Do not dispose of hazardous material in the trash or the sink drain. Ask a StingerStudio employee for help with disposal.
- Make sure that the equipment and area around the equipment is clean after use. Clear the work area before beginning a project.
- Report any injury to the manager on duty and request first aid assistance from StingerStudio staff.
Equipment
- Do not use machines for purposes other than their intended use.
- Use only approved materials with StingerStudio equipment.
- Use of any equipment or materials not belonging to the StingerStudio must be approved by staff.
- Do not leave active machines unattended if operating instructions forbid doing so.
- Do not attempt to stop running equipment with any part of your body. Use the power switch or unplug it.
- Return tools to their original location and notify staff if a tool is broken or missing.
- Do not attempt to repair the equipment. Find a StingerStudio employee and report the break immediately.
- The library cannot guarantee quality or stability of items created in the StingerStudio.
- Use consumables and resources responsibly and with purpose. Do not waste.
- If a user causes damage to a machine through misuse or negligence, they may be asked to contribute towards its repair or replacement.
- No weapons, weapon accessories, or weapon replicas may be created or used in the StingerStudio.
- No drug paraphernalia may be created in the StingerStudio.
Class Guidelines
- Instructors wishing to use the StingerStudio to host a class or to facilitate an assignment must submit a Instruction Request Form.
- Cost of consumables for class assignments should not exceed $100 per class. Costs exceeding this amount may be subject to a use fee from the University Library.
- Users of the StingerStudio are expected to be courteous when classes or events are taking place. Do not create excessive noise or inconvenience to attendees.
Failure to comply with the StingerStudio Use Policy may result in being asked to leave the space, being banned indefinitely, or potential legal action, if necessary. Consequences for violating the policy are at the sole discretion of University Library staff.
