Selection and Deaccessioning

The Library selects, acquires, manages and provides access to collections in many different formats to the extent that resources allow.  Library collections support curriculum-related instruction, extracurricular learning, and other campus and regional educational objectives.  In building its collections, the Library takes into account all the degrees and programs offered by the University at the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with the needs of the many individual courses and activities that comprise those programs and degrees.  In order to maintain a quality library collection for teaching and research, the Library has implemented a process whereby outdated, duplicated, mutilated, superseded or unneeded materials are withdrawn.

Starting in FY20/21, the Library is preparing for COVID-19-related budget cuts which will impact our ability to fund ongoing subscriptions. For more information, see University Library Budget Cuts 2020/21.
