The Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection at California State University, Sacramento is the premier Hellenic collection west of the Mississippi and one of the largest of its kind in the country, currently numbering some 83,000 volumes and over 500 linear feet of personal and institutional archives. For the past two decades the collection has been serving as the anchor of the campus Hellenic Studies Program and as a research collection of international significance for scholars around the globe. My talk will take a look back over the past 20 years, from the origins of the collection at the Speros Basil Vryonis Center for the Study of Hellenism, how it came to Sacramento State in 2003 and has been fulfilling its mission on our campus, highlights and notable acquisitions over the past two decades, our Hellenic Research Fellowship Program, events through the years, and our expanding role in preserving the Greek history of California.
