The University Library is pleased to announce the 2026 Japanese American Archival Collection (JAAC) Undergraduate Research Travel Grant awardee Samuel Brown.

Samuel Brown
Samuel Brown is an undergraduate student at San José State University. His research project, Reclaiming Identity in San Jose: Intergenerational Memory, Civic Engagement, and the Legacy of Japanese American Incarceration, will “explore how Japanese American Communities in San Jose have preserved, reinterpret, and shared memories of wartime incarceration and post-war resettlement, and how these memories continue to inspire civic engagement and activism today.” Brown hopes to produce a documentary short film that combines archival research, oral histories, and present-day community storytelling with members of the Japanese American community in San José. The JAAC will provide a research base for his project through primary sources that document incarceration, resettlement, and redress.
