Kapwa: The Filipino American Journey of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
The month of October marks the celebration of Filipino American History. Through a library exhibit and a symposium, join us in learning more about the Filipino American journey in the United States. The Kapwa exhibit explores the rich history of Filipino Americans, their vibrant present, and promising future in the United States. It spans from the early 20th century to contemporary times and looks ahead to future generations. “Kapwa” literally translates to “fellow being” and is a core Filipino worldview, emphasizing connection beyond social and relational factors that distinguish and differentiate people from each other. The symposium explores the historical, contemporary, and future aspects of the Filipino American experience through a panel presentation and a moderated question-and-answer portion that engages the audience. A reception with light refreshments follows the panel presentation. Please register to attend. We will provide ASL/English interpretation during the symposium. To request this and other ADA reasonable accommodations that would allow you to participate in this event, please contact Melissa Cardenas-Dow, Social Sciences Librarian at Sacramento State University Library, no later than seven business days before the event.
