The Friends of the Sacramento State University Library are delighted to conclude their 2025/2026 Charles Martell Author Lecture Series with Rodrigo Ojeda‑Beck—filmmaker, regional storyteller, and Sacramento State faculty member. He will join us for a special lecture and screening of his visually arresting documentary The Long Valley.
The Long Valley presents a poetic and contemplative portrait of California’s Salinas Valley, one of the world’s most productive agricultural landscapes. Through a sequence of striking visual representation, the film illuminates the daily lives of Central and South American immigrant workers whose labor sustains the region’s agricultural vitality.
Shot on the Alexa Mini Pro and blending Spanish dialogue with English subtitles, the film meditates on resilience, time, place, and the aspirations that shape immigrant experience. As a Davis resident and Central Valley storyteller, Ojeda‑Beck offers a deeply rooted, locally informed perspective on the intersection of landscape, labor, and identity.
