Faculty Course Reserve Request Form

This form allows Sac State Faculty to request course materials to be placed on reserve at the University Library. Several types of material can be requested using this form, and details for each request type are provided in the form.

Request Type Help

Faculty can request course-related material such as print books to be placed on reserve for students.

  • Please submit requests at least two weeks in advance of the date materials will be used in class.
  • The Library accepts personal copies of books and other materials for reserves.
  • Handouts, scanned documents, lab manuals, tests, electronic links to journal articles, course readers, media materials that constitute an illegal recording (made without permission) and physical material(s) borrowed from other institutions are not accepted for reserves. Consider uploading these items directly to Canvas, keeping in mind Copyright & Fair Use limitations.
  • Loan periods can be set for 2 hours, 24 hours, 3 days or 1 week.

Physical chapter scans may be requested by faculty teaching fully online, hybrid, or asynchronous courses. Scanning is limited, and the library cannot scan a text in its entirety.

  • Requests are limited to one chapter per book, up to 50 pages maximum or 10% total of a book. You will be notified if a request exceeds scanning limits.
  • The Library will consider purchasing an e-resource if we are unable to fill your request.
  • Titles already available electronically via OneSearch are generally not eligible for this service.
  • The Library aims to fill requests within 1-2 business days.
  • Files are sent directly to instructors to upload to Canvas.
  • PDF Scans are made in 300 DPI and include OCR (text searchable).

The Library will consider purchasing physical books, Ebooks and media (DVD or streaming) for Course Reserves. Limitations apply.

  • Ordering and receiving purchases may take 1-3 weeks or longer. Placing orders before the start of semester is highly recommended.
  • Purchases are subject to resource availability and funding.
  • The Library does not purchase consumable books such as workbooks, lab manuals, tests, course readers, etc.
  • The Library may purchase a single copy of the most recent edition of a physical book.
  • Ebook options vary, and not all titles are available for purchase.
  • The Library will consider purchasing streaming videos (leased 1-3 years) or physical DVDs. View the Library’s Criteria for Licensing Streaming Media.
  • Please consider streaming video content databases before requesting media purchases.
Digitization Request
In order to issue access to the shared content via Canvas, you will need to create a Panopto account. You can either log into Panopto, or within the your Canvas course by clicking on the “Panopto Recordings” tab which will automatically create an account.
