Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement

Body

Academic and research librarians increasingly recognize scholarly communication as a core competency of the profession. Whether helping researchers meet funders’ mandates for public access and data sharing, guiding responsible copyright practice, or supporting new types of scholarship and instruction, librarians are leading change across campus and around the world. With this workshop, ACRL empowers our community in accelerating the transformation of the scholarly communication system.

The workshop is appropriate for liaisons and any others seeking to advance their professional development in scholarly communication, as well as anyone with new leadership assignments in scholarly communication or digital publishing.

Presenters Jenny Oleen (Western Washington University), Rachael G. Samberg (UC Berkeley), and Jennifer Beamer (Claremont Colleges) will cover the basics of scholarly communications, lead an exercise in copyright and publication agreements, and dive more deeply into scholarly publishing and open access, open education, and research data management.
