The Donald & Beverly Gerth Special Collections & University Archives (SCUA) serves as the principal location for manuscript collections, rare books, fine press, and archives at California State University, Sacramento. The primary strengths of SCUA are post-World War II political, social, and environmental history of the Sacramento region, as well as the history and records of the California State University, Sacramento. Special collections include the Japanese American Archival Collection, the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection, the Southeast Asian Community Resource Center Collection, the Royal Chicano Air Force Poster Collection, the Sacramento Rock and Radio Collection, and the Sexual and Gender Identity Collection. Further collections can be found on the Online Archive of California.

The Special Collections & University Archives are named after Donald and Beverly Gerth. The 10th President of Sacramento State from 1984-2003, Donald Gerth enhanced the campus’ role as the “State University in the State Capital.” SCUA expanded greatly during his term as president and continues to this day. Dean of the Library, Amy Kautzman, says that “the Gerths’ gift allows us to honor the past, build on our holdings of our history, and build future collections that will serve the research needs of our students, faculty, and researchers from around the world.”
