Preserve History, Inspire Discovery: Support the Gerth Special Collections & University Archives
The Donald & Beverly Gerth Special Collections & University Archives safeguard our shared cultural and historical legacy, providing a vital link between our past, present, and future. These invaluable resources empower students, faculty, researchers, and the wider community to engage with primary sources, fostering education and discovery.
Your financial support is essential to advancing our mission to preserve, protect, and share these treasures. Contributions enable us to:
- Acquire archival supplies to safeguard collections.
- Digitize and process materials for wider accessibility.
- Fund special projects, like the transcription of the Sacramento Movimiento Chicano and Mexican American Education Oral Histories and rehousing archival materials in preservation-grade storage.
The Cost of Preservation
Archival processing is a meticulous and resource-intensive process. Here’s a breakdown of the costs associated with preparing new collections:
- Archival boxes: $10 per box (one linear foot)
- Archival folders: $35 per linear foot (approximately 50 folders per box)
- Processing and creating finding aids: $980 per linear foot (20 hours of staff time per foot)
- Total Cost per Linear Foot: $1,025
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a tangible impact on preserving these irreplaceable materials for future generations. With your support, we can continue to integrate archival research into the curriculum, offer hands-on experiences, and ensure these collections remain vibrant and accessible.
