The University Library is pleased to welcome our first Library Research Fellow of the 2017-2018 academic year to campus. An independent scholar, Dr. Anna Kouremenos holds a DPhil degree in Classical Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Oxford. From 2014-2016 she held a postdoctoral position at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Her research focuses on the period of Roman rule in Greece from 144 BCE to CE 401, in particular how this period has been represented (or neglected) by travelers to Greece between the 17th and 19th centuries, by Greeks in various locales with Roman period remains, and by the Greek state in its educational program. She is drawing on the extensive holdings of the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection in support of her research, including travelers’ accounts, local and regional histories, textbooks, and a variety of other materials. Dr. Kouremenos is in residence from Sept. 29-Nov. 7, 2017 and will give a public talk about her research on Nov. 1 in the Senator Nicholas Petris Room (3023).
The Library Research Fellowship Program is generously funded by a grant from the Elios Charitable Foundation with additional funding from the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Foundation.
