Gift of the Friends of the Sacramento State University Library
The Friends of the Library was founded in October 1992 during the tenure of Charles Martell, Dean & University Librarian (1987-1997) and held its first Annual Meeting in March 1993. The Friends of the Library is a volunteer support group. Its members recognize that the Library is the heart of the University and is essential to its educational mission and to the community at large.
The mission of the Friends is to support the Library by drawing together individuals and organizations interested in the Library; reaching out to the community and promoting the interests of the Library; providing a forum for Sac State and regional authors, researchers, and book people to meet and discuss their work and interests; and raising money and material gifts to enhance Library resources.
Since the mid 1990s, the Friends have solicited grants once or twice each year from librarian subject selectors to purchase books and other library materials. The catalog record for each item purchased provides a link to the Friends bookplate.
