Christy Stevens Joins Library Faculty In September Christy Stevens joined the ranks of the library faculty. She is the new Humanities Librarian and has taken the selection and instruction duties for the areas of Humanities, English, Religious Studies, and Linguistics. Full story Refugee Educators’ Network donates Southeast Asia Community Resource Center Collection to Library Preserving the History of Progressive Politics in the Sacramento Region The Department of Special Collections and University Archives has an expanding collection of archival sources that document grass roots politics, community activism, and progressive political leadership at the local, State and national levels. Collections of individual leaders, local organizations, community programs, and organizing committees provide evidence of the role of community collective action in protecting civil liberties, safeguarding the environment, promoting peace and social justice, and providing for those in need of work, shelter and food. Full story Retrospective Map Cataloging Project The Library has undertaken a retrospective cataloging project of its map collection. By the completion of the project, several thousand maps will be made accessible through the library online catalog. Full Story Friends of the Library Fall 2006 Approved Grants Twice each year, the Friends of the Library give grants for requests from librarians and staff. AnnouncementsThe Library will be hosting a symposium Visions of Change: Academic Libraries in Transition on Friday, January 26, 2007. In January all oversized books that used to be shelved on other floors will be relocated to 2 North, near the Reference area. EUREKA, the Library catalog, underwent a software upgrade during the summer. One noteworthy new feature is the default “Relevance” order display of results when a Simple Search by Keyword is done.
