New Suite of Databases from ProQuest

By Anne Bradley, Business Reference Librarian

The Library is excited to announce the addition of four new ProQuest databases which supplement our collection of business-related research databases.

The first new database is Hoover’s Company Records which provides overviews of 40,000+ companies. These overviews include company history, corporate executives, summary financials, top competitors, and products & operations. Portions of these profiles have been freely available from for years. But now CSUS users have access to the complete report and they don’t have to wade through advertisements to read them.

The second addition, Snapshots North America, provides market research overviews. These reports, averaging 10-15 pages, give market size, market share, main competitors, and market forecasts for over 630 categories of products and services. As the name indicates geographic coverage is limited to North America, but most reports focus specifically on the US market. Most of the information is accompanied by graphs or charts.

Third, EIU ViewsWire is useful for finding macroeconomic forecasts, risk assessments, and key developments for 195 countries. These concise briefings include political as well as economic developments which are analyzed for their implications for business. The content is provided by the well-respected Economist Intelligence Unit and is continually updated. These reports are searchable by country name or by subject.

The last new database from ProQuest, the rather curiously named OxResearch, includes analytical articles covering world and regional economic and political developments of major significance. Essentially, these are daily briefings discussing issues of global importance. For example, if you want a brief analysis of the geopolitical reasons for high gas prices this is the place to go. Articles are contributed by over 1,000 faculty members at Oxford and other leading universities around the world, as well as think-tanks and institutes of international standing.

These four new databases share the classic ProQuest interface as seen in ABI/Inform Global. In fact, every single ProQuest database features a flexible search screen, easily emailed documents, a handy tool for making a bibliography, and more! Please give them all a try to see what they can do for you!
