Discussion lists or listservs permit a group of individuals to share e-mail so that a message sent to a list is distributed to all of the people on the list. Discussion lists are usually organized around a common interest. They can be open or closed, moderated or unmoderated. archived or non-archived. While anyone can join an open list, a closed list requires that one apply to the list owner for membership. A moderated list has a moderator who screens messages before posting them to the list for distribution to its members.
