Abstract: The Modern
Transit Society, formed in 1971, consists of two chapters: San
Jose and Sacramento. The society promotes mass
transportation development and related areas such as pedestrian
and cycling access. The Modern Transit Society
successfully lobbied for a light rail system in Sacramento and
pioneered the fight for improved rail service between Sacramento
and the Bay Area. Alfred Bulf was a member of the Modern
Transit Society and was on the Newsletter Committee in 1983.
