Calaveras Big Trees State Park

Description:  The Calaveras Big Tree State Park was originally dedicated in 1931 to preserve the North Grove of giant sequoias. Over the years, additional parcels have been added, including the larger and more remote South Grove which was dedicated in 1954. These interviews were conducted in 1988 to document the history of the park, including the work of the Save the Redwoods League and the Calaveras Grove Association to protect this area from development. This project was a collaborative effort between the Calaveras Big Tree Association and the Oral History Program, CSUS. The Archives houses transcripts of 10 interviews. Waivers and original recordings are housed in the Office of the Calaveras Big Tree Park Service.

Cambodians in California

In 1989 a team of Khmer-speaking college students interviewed 59 Cambodians living in California as part of a joint project carried out by the California State Archives and the CSUS Library. The majority of the interviews were conducted in the Khmer language. All interviews were transcribed and then translated into English. These were then compiled into three volumes and are available in the Archives and in the library.

The project produced other publications that are useful for an overview of the project. These publications are available in the CSUS Archives. In addition, audio recordings of the interviews, original transcripts in Khmer, and other materials related to the project are housed in the CSUS Archives.
