Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection
The Department of Special
Collections and University Archives also houses the rare and
archival materials of the
Tsakopoulos
Hellenic Collection, donated to the Library in December
2002. Among the nearly 1,500 rare books are early productions of
Greek presses dating to the early nineteenth century, editions
of Modern Greek writers, Homerica, Ottoman Turkish chronicles,
travel literature, and a sizable collection of scarce pamphlets.
The centerpiece of the
collection's archival holdings is the manuscript collection of
Basil Vlavianos, publisher of the Greek-American newspaper
Ethnikos Keryx (National Harald), which includes
professional files, photographs, and correspondence.
