Making a Gift to the CSUS Library

The Library gratefully accepts gifts for the enhancement of library collections and services. Gifts to the Library of California State University, Sacramento are tax deductible and can take many forms. Please consider carefully how you might plan your future giving to prove advantageous to you as well as to the University.

For more information, please contact Jennifer D. Ware, Acquisitions Librarian, at 278-7223, or jdware@csus.edu.

CASH
Gifts of cash are available for immediate use by the Library and are usually fully deductible for donors who itemize deductions. Check should be made payable to the CSUS TRUST FOUNDATION. The University also accepts payments by VISA or MasterCard. Direct debit from a checking or savings account is available, too.

GIFTS IN KIND
The Library is happy to accept gifts in the form of books or other library materials, or equipment, software or hardware.

Gifts of books and other library materials are appreciated. It is the policy of the Library to accept items of this nature with the understanding that the materials will be added to the collection if they meet a specific curricular or collection need. Donated materials not needed for the Library collection will be sold at the Friends of the Library BOOK BIN with proceeds to benefit the Library through the purchase of more library materials and equipment.

Gifts of special or unique collections are accepted upon review, as are gifts of equipment, software and hardware.

MAKE A GIFT TO THE LIBRARY ON AMAZON.COM

Funds to purchase library materials are never sufficient to buy all the books, periodicals, databases, videos and other library materials needed for a university campus of more than 28,000 students and 1500 full and part-time faculty. Several years ago subject librarians began posting titles of needed books and other materials on the Amazon.com Wish List. This is an easy way to let our Library supporters and friends know what specific book titles the Library would appreciate having. The Library Wish List is kept up to date by the subject librarians.

The Wish List currently consists of 4 pages. You can navigate through all the pages by hitting “next” at the bottom of the screen. “Add to the shopping cart” the books you would like to buy and “proceed to check-out” when you have made all your selections for purchase. Amazon.com will next take you through a series of questions pertaining to credit card number, donor’s name, etc. The cost of the book(s) is charged to the donor’s credit card and the book(s) is mailed directly to the Library’s Acquisitions Department. When the book is shipped to the Library the donor’s name is included so we can say thank you for the gift and let the donor know the book has arrived. By using the Library Wish List on Amazon.com you will always be assured that your gift is something the Library wants and needs.

Buy a book for the Library at the Library Wish List. The listed books are selected by the Library’s subject specialist librarians who would buy them if the library’s budget allowed for their purchase. You buy a book at Amazon.com, it is shipped to the library, you receive an acknowledgement from the library for your donation and a tax deduction. Click here to see the Library Wish List.

GIFTS OF SECURITIES AND STOCKS
Gifts of appreciated securities and mutual funds shares held long term may be deducted at fair market value on the date of the transfer to the University.
MATCHING GIFTS
Many businesses and corporations match the personal gifts to educational institutions made by employees, retires, and their family members. Contact your company's personnel office for more information.
PLEDGES
You may wish to make a long-term commitment to the Library by pledging a certain amount to be paid over a period of time on an agreed upon payment schedule. This will bring you regular tax deductions and assist the Library both substantively and in long-range planning.

PLANNED GIFTS & BEQUESTS
You may wish to include the Library in your Estate Planning. If so, please contact the University Development office at 916 278-6989.
