B.J.’s Farewell Party!

We’re planning on sending off BJ with a bang!  As many of you are well aware, BJ is leaving us to teach at Sheldon High in Elk Grove. Come and celebrate with us on Thursday, July 28 th at 2 p.m. in the Circulation Conference Room. Everyone is welcome!
Also come and sign BJ's going away book. Say good luck, wish him well, leave contact information, give advice, or challenge him to arm wrestle. In short, say goodbye with your own personalized message that he will take with him when he retires from the Library. The book will be in Barbara Stephen's office, in Circ. Come in and sign at your leisure. But remember, his last day is July 28th, so make sure you do so before it is too late! If you would like to make a donation to BJs going away gift, please send your donation to Lynn, Ed, Jennifer, or Jared.

EXHIBITS: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

Jana Shober’s exhibit of remarkable portraits continues throughout the summer on the second floor as does Crisis in the Ranks. You may have noticed that the Library Artistry display has been removed. This removal is in preparation for the installation of new glass sliding doors on the exhibit cases under the escalator. These doors will make the installation and removal of exhibits much safer as well as easier. The Exhibit Committee is hopeful that the conversion will be completed soon so that the Library Artistry exhibit can be placed back into the case before the end of Summer Session.

The campus is hosting a one-day symposium on Eugenics in California: Science, History, Policy, and Ethics on October 21, 2005. Speakers will come from the University of Michigan, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Puget Sound, CSUS, UC Davis, and the Center for Genetics and Society. Complimentary exhibits to open in September are already planned for Library Special Collections and the Library Art Gallery. The Exhibits Committee is planning an exhibit on the subject of Eugenics for the first floor.
