Who was that robed man? Olympic Exhibit brings 6th Graders
By Anne Bradley, Reference Department

If you were around the Library Monday morning you may have noticed Reza Peigahi and a few other individuals dressed in ancient Greek garb. It was all part of a living history experience put on by the Library for local 6th grade students. Over 80 students from Maple Elementary and Abraham Lincoln Elementary came to campus to learn about the Ancient Olympic games. see story

An Introduction to the Edward C. Britton Collection
By Kurt Kuss, Special Collection & University Archives Department

In the last few months, with the help of volunteer Bill Wiedner, I have been processing the Edward C. Britton Collection, one of several collections of faculty papers here in the archives. While we are still discovering new things about the collection, there is a considerable amount we know already. And we have also recovered a significant body of Britton’s work that had not been part of the original donation to the archives. see story

CDL and NSDL brings UC and CSU Science Librarians Together for Portal
By Maria Kochis, Reference Department

On Wednesday, April 14th, I attended a focus group sponsored by the California Digital Library. The CDL, established in 1997 as a UC library (www.cdlib.org), received a grant from the National Science Digital Library to build a web portal for math and science content. Science librarians were solicited from the University of California, the CSU and private colleges to inform the CDL about user habits and expectations in their own libraries. see story

The Way to Carnegie Hall, Part 2 or Alicia in Wonderland
by Alicia Patrice, Reference Department

Early in the morning of April 8th, 2004, I boarded a bus headed for the San Jose Airport, to catch a non-stop flight to New York City. The previous day consisted of a nearly all-day rehearsal with the CSUS Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Already the excitement was building for what promised to be the opportunity of a lifetime. The weeks had passed quickly and our hard work was about to pay off. see story
