Placing Materials on Reserve - Information for Faculty

Course Reserves | Electronic Reserves Information | CSUS Library Course Reserves Copyright Policy | Sample Copyright Permission Letter |

CSUS faculty may submit requests in person, mail, fax, or by e-mail.

CSU Executive Order 926 requires that all instructional materials and library reserve materials, to the extent possible, must be accessible to students with disabilities at the same time they are available to all other students enrolled in the program. Because conversion of library reserve materials to alternative formats for students with disabilities can take several weeks or more, it is important that you place materials on electronic reserve at least 2 weeks in advance. Whenever possible, you are enouraged to choose materials from publishers and journals that provide accessible electronic content. Please see Accessibilty at Sacramento State.

Each request must include the following information:

  • author, title clearly marked
  • professors name, last name and initials
  • course and number (e.g., Mgmt 174)
  • loan period (e.g., 2-hour, 24-hour, 3-day, 1 week)

To expedite this process, submit items from the Library directly to User Services. .

Note:User Services does not purchase required texts, but CSUS faculty may place their own personal copies on reserve.

Guidelines for Placing Materials on Course Reserve:

Due to the ability to password individual classes, faculty may now submit both copyrighted and non-copyrighted materials (e.g., journal articles, book chapters, course notes, exams, homework solutions, sample papers, problem sets, lecture notes, course syllabi, reading lists, examinations, links to CSUS full-text articles, etc.). Please refer to the CSUS Library Course Reserves Copyright Policy for copyright guidelines. Please submit all materials 2-weeks prior to the start of the semester in order to ensure immediate access by your students.

Items to be scanned by the Library must meet the following criteria for quality electronically produced copies:

  • Clean copies of material with as little black margin
  • Material must be crisp and clean so that it can be scanned using optical character recognition software (OCR) and made accessible
  • 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper with at least 1/2 inch margins on all four sides
  • Single sided copies only
  • Text Only
  • No handwritten documents
