Hold Requests and Recalls

Online hold requests may be placed on checked out items by current Sacramento State Faculty, Staff, and Students with a Library account free of overdue items, fines, or blocks. An item is recalled when a hold request is placed. If a hold request has been placed on an item checked out to you, you will be notified of the new due date by email. When a recalled item is returned, we will notify the person who placed the request, and the item will be held for one week at the User Services Desk. You may view your patron account to verify the due date or if an item is ready for pickup.

Course Reserve and Library Media Center items may be recalled.

To Place A Request:

Hold requests can only be placed on items with zero available copies.

  • Log in to your OneSearch My Account.
  • In the SEARCH box, enter title, author, etc, & select Search.
  • Select the Get It tab, then Request. The request option will not show if the item is cannot be held.
  • Enter a Not Needed After date and Comment, if necessary, & select Request.
  • Select Refresh Services List to see the new due date. The new due date is 2 weeks from the date of the request to allow time return of the item.
  • Always be sure to Sign Out.
  • If your current email is on file you will be notified by email when the item is returned. You may also view your account to verify item status.

A “Request Placed” message indicates the request was placed successfully. The original borrower is notified of the new due date (two weeks from the date the hold is placed). When the item is returned, the OneSearch status will be changed to “On Hold Shelf”. Items are held at the User Services desk for seven days.

To Cancel A Request:

  • Log in to your OneSearch My Account.
  • Select the Requests option.
  • Select Cancel next to the item you wish to cancel.
  • Select OK to confirm the cancellation request.
  • Always be sure to Sign Out.
